Summer 2005
Mission Trip Update
Greetings to you and all of your loved ones
in Jesus’ name. Thank you very much for your support and your
prayers for our trip to Nigeria, Africa. Covenant Orphanage
Home is proceeding as planned; we hope that bye the end of
October two buildings will have roofs on them. On this trip we
got the opportunity to visit the orphanage home in Enugu, where
we met the director of this orphanage home. Her hope is to see
more people helping with money and medical care for the children
that are in her care. Our job there was to give her a little
money and to love on the kids. Eighteen year old Johannah
Schlichter, the youngest member of our group was especially
burdened by the Lord to love and care for those children. Her
desire before we even left the USA was to love and play with the
children that had been abandoned and forgotten by their parents
and society. She was like a kid inside a candy shop in the
orphanage home, when it was time to leave she had to put one of
the little boys back into his crib and when she did she had to
run out of the room because he started to cry. When she got to
the car she started to cry, because she knew that that was the
most love and attention that those children had had in a while.
Next, we had
privilege of visiting the Enugu prison which was built to hold
650, but is now holding 771 people. Out of that 21 are
condemned to death, 18 are in for life and 53 are considered
lunatics. Four of our team members, Johannah, John Jr., Pastor
Gary and John Sr. took time to minister to the prisoners. After
sharing the gospel with the inmates an altar call was given and
18 inmates gave their lives to Christ.
Furthermore,
God did so many things during the conference, including
salvation, physical and emotional healings. For the people that
were hurt in the past, whether it be a childhood pain, marital
wound, or division and tribal differences, they had the
opportunity to lay it all down before God and allow his love and
healing to take place.
Last, but not
least, we had the opportunity to travel to seven different
states, both in the south and Islamic north of
Nigeria. In those states we got
to teach and preach in churches, on television, and on the
streets where many people gave their lives to Christ. Young
people were inspired to get involved in missions; some were
encouraged in their faith. Our team of eight people from the
USA were blessed and honored to be used by God, to bless His
kingdom in Africa. God also used the people of Nigeria to bless
us from the USA through their love, generosity, vibrant worship
and hospitality. When the trip was finally over, after four
weeks, it was difficult for us to return back home, because of
the many friends that God has brought into our lives while on
this trip.
Unity for
Africa wants to thank you again for your prayers, love and
financial support which made this trip possible. All the things
that happened on this trip could not have happened without your
generous hearts. We love you and may God richly bless you.
Love always,
John and
Justina
